Yin Yoga for Self-Love

Teacher: Janine Maila

1 weekend (17.5h)
Friday 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Saturday & Sundays 9:00am – 5:15pm
Language: bilingual

Valentine’s day is often celebrated with the expression of love to our loved ones, often through gifts or acts of care towards others. In this culture we are often taught to seek love and give love outside of ourselves and are rarely shown the way to deep self-care. All relationships stem from our relationship with ourselves and when don’t really love ourselves in a deep way, we can’t truly love another. This workshop provides an opportunity to learn how to focus our love and devotion back to ourselves, through yin yoga, self-massage, meditations and reflections. We will take the time to appreciate ourselves, treat ourselves, care for our bodies and hearts. We will practice being our own best friend, best partner, our own beloved so that we can live our relationships with ourselves and other in a more balanced and healthy way.

Pricing Until Jan 29 Jan 30 – Feb 11 Feb 12
Non-Member $250 $308.82 $350
Member $250 $262.50 $297.50
YTC Students $175.00*

Goal of this workshop

To provide tools for deepening in self-love and self-care

Students can expect

  • A greater capacity to love oneself throughout all of life’s experiences
  • Yin yoga poses for opening the heart
  • Practices of compassion and metta
  • Sitting meditation- developing inner loving witness
  • Yoga nidra and sankalpa
  • Journaling
  • Acu-points and self-massage
  • Live music in savasana

Target Audience

  • Anyone seeking to develop a more loving relationship with oneself
  • Anyone having challenges with relationships in general
  • People who have tendencies towards self-criticism, self-doubt, self-hate, and want to develop more gentleness
  • Couples who want to celebrate valentine’s day in a new way, by taking care of themselves as individuals

Therapeutics

When we don’t love ourselves, we create a toxic internal environment that degenerates into imbalance and disease. The best way we can be healthy is by cultivating positive mind states and learning to love ourselves throughout all the ups and downs. The yin yoga practice allows for the qi or life force to move freely through the meridians, contributing to a greater sense of ease and flow in our body and mind systems.

The organs solicited in this period are the spleen and stomach. This workshop will allow you to understand the functioning of these organs, the imbalances that can manifest and the yoga postures, acupressure points, foods and lifestyle choices that support their health. Through a deep yin yoga practice, we will connect to the earth element, ground into our bodies and bring balance to the mind and spirit!

In autumn, the trees let go of their leaves to return to the essential: the trunk, the branches, the roots. This is a time to follow this movement in nature- to let go of our excess thoughts, habits and tensions. In Chinese Medicine, the organs of this season are the lungs and large intestine that are responsible for the immune system. This is why in fall we can tend to catch colds more easily, feel run down, have breathing & digestive problems, coughs and mucus, and more. This workshop will allow you to understand the functioning of the organs solicited in this period, the yoga postures, acupressure points, foods and lifestyle choices that support their health. Through a blend of Chinese Medicine theory and Yin Yoga practice, we will understand the immune system and attune ourselves to the energy of fall!

What is Yin Yoga?

In Yin Yoga, we hold postures in stillness for 3-7 minutes. This practice has a balancing effect on the connective tissues of the body, as well as the joints, and can dissolve tensions that have been accumulated in the body for years.  It stimulates the circulation of energy through the meridian system of the body and can thus have a similar effect as an acupuncture/acupressure treatment, restoring balance to the body’s systems. The Yin Yoga practice brings relaxation, serenity, a deep feeling of well-being to the body and mind.

Mylène’s approach

Mylène concentrates on the wellbeing and evolution of the practitioner himself so that he/she is constantly developing a deeper ability to hold space and be present for the client.
Her focus is to increase client’s awareness, sensibility, and understanding of what is happening in their own body so that they can then take better care of themselves throughout their daily lives.
Through her teachings, she seeks to deepen the connection with the Self, which in itself is most therapeutic and makes for comprehensive and long-term changes to take place.

In this workshop, we will use Yin Yoga postures and acupressure points that will stimulate the circulation of energy in the meridians connected to the uterus, bringing balance to cycles and relief to symptoms of menstrual cramps, PMS, hot flashes, and more.

In traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), our body is perceived as microcosm of nature: the body, just like nature, functions harmoniously with an interaction of a community of systems.  In TCM, 5 element theory describes the relationship between each phase of nature and how it applies to understanding our body systems.  In understanding 5 element theory, we can better understand our own bodies and how to live in harmony with the cycles of nature. Through discussion of TCM and 5 element theory as well as the Yin Yoga practice, we will come into an embodied understanding of how to maintain, preserve, and enjoy the health of our internal ecosystem.

Attuning to Winter – a Yin Yoga and Chinese Medicine Workshop
Mar 4 @ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

The kidney-bladder pairs of meridians and organs in Chinese Medicine are the foundation of yin and yang balance for all the other organs. They are a storehouse of vital energy and need to remain balanced for all the other organs to function well. With the cold and darkness of the winter, the kidneys and bladder are more solicited for their reserves. Whereas most creatures in the animal kingdom either hibernate or migrate during this time, we often maintain the same fast-paced rhythm throughout the winter. This pace, along with poor diet and lifestyle choices can greatly diminish our reserves of vital energy, leaving us feeling depleted, burnt out, sore lower back, poor circulation and a myriad of other symptoms .

As we prepare for the coming winter, I propose we stock up on our vital energy and tools to help us be in harmony with the winter! We will understand the functioning of the kidneys and bladder in Chinese Medicine and what foods, practices and lifestyle choices can support this functioning. We will practice cultivating and preserving our vital energy through yin yoga postures for kidney and bladder meridians, as well as acu-points and breathing practices that we can apply in daily life.

What is Yin Yoga?

In yin yoga, we hold postures in meditative stillness for 3-10 minutes. This practice accesses the deep connective tissues and joints and can dissolve tensions that have been accumulated for years in these deep parts of the body. It also stimulates the circulation of energy throughout the meridian system of the body and so can have similar effects to an acupuncture/acupressure treatment, bringing balance to the systems of the body. This practice brings release, serenity, and a deep sense of well-being to body and mind.
